My Agenda for Mobile News

Anders Borg attempting to interview himself. Here goes...

Q: Is this really a news service?

A: Kind of. It's relying on fresh news, but my goal is to provide commentary and make predictions, not just make raw reporting of what I find.

Q: What are the topics of this blog?

A: Anything I find interesting in the field of mobile/cellular phones and ditto infrastructure, and through which I try to extrapolate trends and prove points. Sometimes I write about off-topic subjects, but only if I for some reason find it especially interesting, like the infamous tardigrade/robot posting.

Q: What sources do you have?

A: Approximately 30 odd news and blog feeds from popular sources, as well as a number of email news lists and other sites. The feeds and many more are available in News Feeds, but I don't go through all these every day.

Q: What don't you write about?

A: Within the specific topic area I intentionally no longer write about individual phone releases, unless of strategic relevance and serving as an example. There are released 100s of phone models a year, and many are very much alike, and there are many other blogs that focus on this, so I hope you get my point.

Q: What's your intended audience?

A: Primarily myself, as I need to do this research anyway for my business, but I figure the best targeted audience is someone on a technical management level in the mobile industry that wants opinionated headsups on weird and wonderful things.

Q: Are you open to requests for new topic areas?

A: Not really, as my time is scarce, but feel free to send me questions via Feedback. I might answer.

Q: How often do you post?

A: It depends very much on my availability and mood. It spans between once per 3 days to 5 or more postings a day. I'm not a journalist, so don't expect any form of steady frequency.

Q: Are you totally truthful in your commentary?

A: Many of my statements are of the type "this is likely to happen", which is based on my experience from working with strategic planning, product management and development of mobile phone software and embedded systems software and hardware for many years, yet I don't expect nor want you to rely on everything I say. The future is sometimes hard to predict. Also, I'm not very bright, so don't expect "Einsteinian" comments.

Q: Are you independent?

A: Yes, I don't charge for anything I write about, yet I appreciate hints about new things, and my writing is not censored by any entity (except sometimes myself).

Q: Should I also blog? Everyone else seems to do it.

A: The simple answer is: Not unless you are paid to do it: It takes a lot of time that you could spend in better ways (like having a social life, go fishing, exercise etc), unless you have a need for the subject matter anyway, or don't have any other outlets for your opinions. The more nuanced answer is: Maybe, if you feel you'll have an audience for your unique topics. My experience is that the more wacky and focused the blog is the better. For obvious reasons I can't be too wacky considering my topics and intended audience.

Q: Do you want opinions on the blog?

A: Sure, fire away.

Q: Are we done yet?

A: Yes, leave me now to contemplate the cosmos and what to buy for dinner. Shoo...
