DRM, what everybody loves to hate
Will DRM Die Today? indicates that industry heavy-weights (including EMI and Apple) consider that the best way to fight illegal/free downloading of music is to remove DRM altogether. Other media companies seem not convinced though.

Quote: 'only 22 out of every 1,000 songs on the average iPod, or less than 3%, were purchased from iTunes'
What Steve Jobs doesn't say though is that this has made the iPod the success it is today. What if only DRM-protected AAC-formatted songs had been supported? The iPod might have had no more success than Sony's ATRAC-only devices.

EMI will announce the decision today. I hope it's not an overdue April's Fool joke.
