EMI/Apple to offer DRM-free music
This is good and will put pressure on other music providers as well: 'Apple Unveils Higher Quality DRM-Free Music on the iTunes Store - DRM-Free Songs from EMI Available on iTunes for $1.29 in May'.
Not specifically mobile-related, but certainly with mobile implications, considering previous problems with transferring iTunes music to phones.
Note that it's not just about no DRM, but also a more sensible audio quality level: 256 kbps AAC. Not quite CD, but reasonable. This is approx. 2 MB per minute.
It's a good deal that existing customers can upgrade to the higher quality by paying the difference.
Engadget has a semi-sceptical comment on this news, also indicating it's EMI that drives this shift rather than Apple: Apple and EMI ditching DRM is good, but it's not good enough
